River Sid Outreach Project

Introduction to the project

Project Dates: December 2025 – April 2026

After a thorough community consultation, the RSCG identified the need to engage young people and other underrepresented groups with the River and activities to enhance and protect it. The RSCG secured funding from the East Devon National Landscapes Community Project Fund to run a six month project designed to do just this, and the young peoples art project was born.

Key Aims:
  • To collaborate with local partners to broaden the RSCG’s reach
  • To engage young people in the local environment, empowering them to speak up for their river and build skills and knowledge
  • To produce a final artwork to coincide with the Sid Valley’s ‘Nature Festival’, spreading the work of the river.

Project Details

A group of nine young people who access Young Devon skills session, worked with lead artist Caitlin Hennessy, along with street artist Steve McCracken, and the project lead Emily Hobson-Marton, to create the final mixed media art piece. This is now exhibited on the wall space at Sidmouth Swimming Pool.

Along the way, members of the River Sid Catchment Group kindly volunteered their time to teach the young people all about the practical conservation tools needed to support a healthy river such as river fly monitoring and water quality testing.

Head to Sidmouth Swimming Pool to view the final artwork which will be in place until late spring 2026.
